ASEAN Sports Day celebration in the capital

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and ASEAN member nation embassies jointly organised ASEAN Sports Day 2023, in conjunction with the 56th ASEAN Day celebration, at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday.

Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, as the Acting Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, was the guest of honour.

The event began with a warm-up session followed by a walkathon.

The event also featured exhibitions on traditional games from ASEAN member countries. Participation was open to the public for free.

This was the second time that ASEAN Sports Day was held in the country, after 2019 at the multipurpose hall of Berakas Sports Complex. ASEAN Sports Day is celebrated on August 8 to foster friendship and instil unity and understanding as well as cooperation among the ASEAN community.

ASEAN Sports Day 2023 is a commitment by all ASEAN member countries, agreed during the Senior Official Meeting on Sports in November 2018 in Myanmar. – James Kon
