Apply and develop skills gained, students told

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad as a member of the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Working Group hoped that students will continue to apply and develop the skills and knowledge that they have gained throughout their 15 months of training, to make full use of them as well as the industry experience to become a valuable asset to their company.

Speaking as the guest of honour at the contract signing ceremony for iSkills Cohort 1 organised by the MPEC Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at the Bridex International Conference Centre in Jerudong yesterday, he shared that the students during the Program Jati Diri at National Service (PKBN) Temburong Camp strengthened values particularly their integrity, resilience, spirituality, good discipline and responsibility.

He added that the achievement would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of government agencies, local institutions and industrial players as well as parents and students.

Dr Haji Azman also shared that over the last few years, the iSkills and Industrial Skills Qualification (ISQ) programme have been enhanced through the Manpower Industry Steering Committee (MISC) Working Group for Energy with the support of the industry to supply the local talent for manpower demands.

He expressed appreciation to Adinin Works and Engineering Sdn Bhd, Amec Foster Wheeler (B) (Wood Plc) Sdn Bhd, Borneo Systematic Sdn Bhd, Mashhor General Contractor Sdn Bhd, Massutera Engineering Sdn Bhd, Megalift Sdn Bhd, Muara Maritime Services Sdn Bhd, Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn Bhd, Tendrill International Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Rekayasa Innovasi Sdn Bhd for their support in capitalising the local talent by offering employment and apprenticeship to the students. “I hope that with continuous effort, together we will be able to contribute to the nation’s aspiration of achieving a skilled and highly accomplished local workforce,” he said.

Permanent Secretary (Wawasan) at the PMO Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala Binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad was also present.

MPEC said this marked another milestone for the iSkills and ISQ programme where 105 students signed their contracts of employment and 15 signed their apprenticeship contracts under the iReady Apprenticeship programme.

The ceremony is one of the highlights in conjunction with the Recruitment Fair 2022 at Halls 1 and 2, Bridex International Conference Centre in Jerudong.
