The Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) raided a cockfighting and katam katam gambling operation in Mukim Serasa on New Year’s Day.
A total of nine individuals, aged between 34 and 69, comprising both locals and foreigners, were apprehended during the midday operation.
Evidence seized during the raid included mobile phones and a substantial amount of Brunei and foreign currencies, estimated to be around BND3,000, believed to have been used for gambling.
All suspects were subsequently brought to the CID headquarters for further investigation.
The RBPF stated that the suspects are likely to be charged under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, Chapter 28. According to Section 6(2) of the same Act, any individual found at a gambling location is considered to be involved in gambling activities.
The RBPF urges the public to actively assist in combating crime by reporting any suspicious activity to the police hotline at 993 or their nearest police station. – James Kon
