SINGAPORE (XINHUA) – Two 29-year-old Singaporeans were arrested for allegedly evading taxes amounting to SGD457,968 Singapore dollars, Singapore Customs said in a statement yesterday.
The man and woman were detained on January 23 during a customs operation at Petir Road in northwest Singapore. Authorities seized 4,228 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes and two vans. Drug paraphernalia found in one of the vehicles was referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
Investigations revealed that the man was allegedly responsible for delivering the duty-unpaid cigarettes. Court proceedings are ongoing against him, while investigations into the woman are underway.
