Ahmad Yazid finishes first in local trail run

Ahmad Yazid bin Awang Hidup emerged champion in the men’s open category of the 3rd Flora and Fauna Trail Run along the vicinity of the Tasek Lama Recreational Park in the capital yesterday.

The newly-crowned winner clocked a winning time of 44:53s ahead of runners-up Ruzaini bin Mahadi and third place finisher Malek bin Awang Hidup, who posted times of 45:10s and 46:20s.

Meanwhile, Alea Liya Abdullah claimed the top gong in the women’s open category after finishing with a time of 1:02.59s, followed by Wan Nor Amalina in second place with a time of 1:10.14s.

Vanessa Gomez rounded off the podium in third with 1:11.22s.

In the Men’s Master I category, Shamsul Effandy bin Haji Sulaiman came on top with a time of 46:29s.

Veteran runner Haji Jupli bin Haji Pangis finished second with 47:50s while Mohamad Azrol bin Haji Awang Aji came third with 51.01s.

Bay Luke was the fastest in the Women’s Master I category after recording a time of 1:05.23s followed by Tho Siaw Kim with a time of 1:06.42s. Henritha Singa completed the podium with a time of 1:07.57s.

Other winners also included Chung Kwei Ming in the Men’s Master II category and Airince Liam in the Women’s Master II category. The top five winners from each category were awarded cash prizes and medals.

Six categories were contested – Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Master I, Men’s Master II, Women’s Master I and Women’s Master II.

Sponsored by Skechers Brunei, the run attracted a good mix of recreational and competitive running enthusiasts.

The challenge path was created by renowned distance runner Sefli Ahar and his running team SEF Runners who hoped to share their passion and experience in trail running.

The latest instalment of the Flora and Fauna Trail Run was held for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
