Belait Arabic School (SAB) was one of the 12 schools shortlisted for the 2023 Southeast Asian Waste Hero Awards School Category (Kindergarten-Primary Education) organised by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainability (SEAMEO SEPS) in December last year, Acting Principal Pengiran Hajah Masniah @ Nur Amalina binti Pengiran Hussin.
She said, “Alhamdulillah, in 2023, SAB was among the schools that obtained 100 per cent grades A-D in the Primary School Assessment (PSR),” she said at the school’s annual award ceremony where some 46 students who excelled academically and in co-curriculum activities last year, were feted yesterday.
“We were able to achieve this due to the school’s green initiatives that supported the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2023,” she said. The acting principal also highlighted activities organised by the school, such as sports, art, and charitable events, to provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills outside of the classroom.
“To mark the occasion, we are happy to recognise some of the teaching staff members who have been with the school for 10 years. They are not only teachers but also the main pillars of the school,” she said.
Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann was the guest of honour at the event, which also celebrated the achievements of 18 teachers.
Pengiran Hajah Masniah @ Nur Amalina said the ceremony “aims not only to celebrate the achievements of outstanding students and teachers, but also acts as an inspiration for others to follow in their footsteps”.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of awards, including the Best Student Award, for each class and subject, as well as Best Teacher Award for each subject.
The Best in Education and Co-curriculum was presented to Khaizuran bin Rezuan and Muhammad Fadhli Danial bin Fari Surnaidi. -Daniel Lim
