Accolades for local cyber team

Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) awarded five Creative Computing programme students of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) for producing videos to promote awareness of online safety.

The programme, held in collaboration between UTB and BruCERT aimed to create online safety awareness among youth, while fostering skills and creativity.

Five out of 10 videos submitted were selected by BruCERT based on creativity, quality, and clarity of the cybersecurity awareness message.

The winning video How to Spot a Fake Website by Awangku Mohammad A’sri Yazzie Putra bin Pengiran Yahya depicted an online shopping website with unbelievable offers and highlights the telltale signs of a scam website.

In second place, The Importance of Updating Your Phone by Awangku Mohd Akmal Muazzam bin Pengiran Mohd Adam Nor-Islam highlights the importance of regular updates to protect mobile devices from the latest threats.

Meanwhile, How Can Your Device Get a Virus by Lenita Helina Faumuina in third place shows how easy it is to get infected with a computer virus by clicking on links, opening attachments, inserting an infected pen drive, and installing apps from unknown sources.

Mohammad Iqbal Syafiq bin Mustapha with his video Things to Do Before Selling Your Phone and Nadziratul Nadzirah binti Ibrahim with Be Aware of What You Share received consolation prizes.

Winners were awarded cash prizes, while their videos will be telecast on national television and on BruCERT’s social media accounts as part of a nationwide public awareness campaign.
