An abandoned newborn male was found alive at the Block ‘E’ area, behind a bank’s branch in Kampong Tanjung Bunut on Thursday afternoon.
The newborn was found by a man who heard the sound of a crying infant upon getting off from his parked car.
Paramedics rushed the child to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital for an initial examination where the infant was then placed in the Special Care Baby Unit for observation.
Initial investigation revealed the baby weighs 2.840 kilogrammes and is in a stable condition.
The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) received a distress call around 3.53pm. RBPF confirmed the report in a statement yesterday. Police personnel and paramedics were dispatched to the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 317, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code.
The RBPF urged witnesses to provide information to the Women and Children’s Abuse Investigation Unit under the Criminal Investigation Department by contacting 993 or 2459500 (ext 490/333) or any nearby police station. – James Kon
