extensively implemented in the country

over the years, in particular to support the

goals outlined in the country’s Vision 2035

national development plan.

Infrastructure expenditure in Brunei

remains strong as the country pivots

towards economic diversification by

creating new and downstream industries,

and boosting employment opportunities

for Bruneians.

released by the World Economic Forum

(WEF) indicated that the country is making

major strides in overall infrastructure

development, scoring high among the

Southeast Asian economies.

Temburong Bridge

Fast taking shape is the construction

of the Temburong Bridge, which is

slated to be completed by the end of

the year. Covering a total distance of

projected economic growth this year,

Bruneians must not be complacent as

many challenges lie in wait.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution

(4IR) is one of the many challenges

faced by global economies today, His

Majesty said, also advising increased

participation in global networks to

upgrade national productivity and

opportunities and ensure that Bruneians

fulfil the prerequisites for standards and

regulations and are able to adapt to

digital technology.

The monarch added that this requires

Brunei to enhance cooperation with

other nations. In the global economic

network, Bruneians need to take the

existing opportunities, including in the

ASEAN region whereby ASEAN e-trade

has the potential to increase from

USD30 billion in 2016 to USD200 billion

by 2025.

The technological developments

brought about by 4IR will however

30km and spanning the width of Brunei

Bay, the Temburong Bridge Project will

link Jalan Utama Mentiri in the Brunei-

Muara District and Jalan Labu Estate in

Temburong.

Once completed, the mammoth 30km

bridge, one of the largest construction

projects in the country, will allow

commuters tobypassLimbangandthe four

immigration checkpoints along the current

route, reducing travel time between the

two districts to only 30 minutes.

The bridge’s construction reached

a milestone on February 28 with the

installation of the final girder box. The

installation completed the construction

of the 13.35-km Marine Bridge, the

largest section of the Temburong Bridge

Project.
