To support that vision, we need
the close cooperation of the
government, private sector and
the public, as a whole. These close
associations will make it easy for
businesses and entrepreneurship
to thrive, and the nation more
attractive to foreign investors.
If such an environment can be
maintained, then it is an asset to

Brunei Vision 2035, which was inaugurated in 2007
by the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan
Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, aims to
transformBrunei Darussalam into a nation of international
status with an educated, highly-skilled and successful
populace enjoying a high quality of life, amid a dynamic
and sustainable economy.
In his New Year’s Day 2018 titah, His Majesty said,
“Year by year, we are getting closer towards achieving
our goals for Vision 2035. With that drawing ever so
close, our responsibility increases in meeting our goals
as a developed nation.
“To support that vision, we need the close cooperation
of the government, private sector and the public, as a
whole. These close associations will make it easy for
businesses and entrepreneurship to thrive, and the
nation more attractive to foreign investors. If such an
environment can be maintained, then it is an asset to the
nation.”
In his titah at the opening of the 15
th
Legislative Council
(LegCo) sessiononMarch 7, 2019, HisMajesty emphasised
the importance of the ‘whole-of-nation’ approach,
“because if the front line, comprising ministers, deputy
ministers, permanent secretaries and senior government
officers does not show solid cooperation and consensus
in realising the national vision, then all the planning will
be in vain.”
These insights provided by His Majesty have thereby
laid down the main policy directions for the various
ministries’ journey towards achieving such a vision.
The ‘whole-of-the nation’ approach also ensures
the success of the country’s development, economic
sector and the oil-and-gas downstream sector, as well
as that of the food tourism and services sector, the
info-communications technology (ICT) sector and the
manufacturing sector.
Networking sessions are one such opportunity for
various stakeholders to come together and engage with
each other towards building a conducive, pro-business
and pro-investment ecosystem in the country.
This is one example of the ‘whole-of-nation approach’
in nurturing and growing the business ecosystem,
which requires a healthy and cooperative collaboration
between the government and the private sector.
