The Department of Town and Country Planning at the Ministry of Development announced that 31 companies were given warnings and seven fined for violating the Town and Country Planning (Composition of Offences) Regulations, 2018.
The violations were identified during the two-day Kemas Operation (OPKEMAS) conducted by the Planning Authority, Department of Town and Country Planning, in the Brunei-Muara District recently.
The companies ignored warnings from authorities and breached the regulations by placing, using or displaying items in pedestrian walkways and parking areas, including driveways, which posed potential safety hazards due to slippery and dirty conditions. These actions also resulted in a reduction in the number of parking spaces and disrupted pedestrian traffic on walkways that are meant to be kept clean and aesthetically pleasing. Such activities have further impacted the aesthetic appeal and beauty of commercial areas in the country.
Each violation carries a fine of up to BND500.
The companies were given seven days from the date the fine was issued to settle the penalties.
The department reminded the public, building owners and business operators to adhere to planning laws and take responsibility for maintaining the beauty, cleanliness and safety of business areas in the country. – Fadley Faisal
