A workshop on halal adherence was organised by the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) to enhance the understanding for halal certificates and permit holders on the obligation to uphold ‘halal-ness’, cleanliness and safety of products, especially on handling and production aspects of food or non-food products,.
Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim presented certificates of participation at the event.
The two day workshop which started on July 2, was attended by 30 food and non-food business premise owners who received halal permits and certificates from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council.
Sabli Food Industries (B) Sdn Bhd’s food technologist Mohd Kamal Mujaddid bin Kamal Hisham said the workshop provided instructions on how to apply for halal certificates and permits as well as briefed them on the latest regulations, application procedures and management.
“The topics on cleanliness, food contamination and dangers in food processing were of interest to me as I am heavily involved in food processing. The workshop was relevant to my career,” he said.
Another participant SKH Trading Company’s human resource supervisor Mohd Kamarul Rizam bin Untong said the workshop focused on how to obtain halal certificates and permits from the Halal Food Control Division and safety and cleanliness presented by the Brunei Darussalam Food Authority (BDFA). A food consultant also explained safe and proper food packaging.
“It was beneficial for us in the food and beverage industry,” he said.
The workshop was a follow-up to the Halal Food Control Division’s previous programmes on strengthening halal supervision and halal enhancement five years ago. – Azlan Othman
