A funeral management workshop, held in Jalan Batu Bersurat, equipped 20 participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the deceased according to Islamic teachings.
Asmady bin Haji Ahmad and facilitators from Ar-Razaq Kifayah Management led the workshop covering essential procedures such as bathing the body, performing funeral prayers, shrouding the body and burial.
The workshop aimed to achieve several goals. Firstly, it aimed to provide participants with a clear understanding of fardhu kifayah, a communal obligation in Islam that includes managing the deceased. This knowledge could empower them to fulfil their responsibility as funeral managers when needed. Secondly, the workshop served as a reminder of death’s inevitability and its place within the cycle of life.
Beyond practical skills, the workshop also emphasised religious values by reminding participants of the significance of death. The hope is that participants will share their knowledge and contribute to a more organised and Islam-aligned approach to funeral management in Brunei. This, in turn, could lead to greater efficiency, order, and respect for religious values during this sensitive time. – Lyna Mohamad
