A total of 185 muallaf (new Muslim converts) were celebrated on Friday at the second Islamic Dakwah Centre’s Certificate Presentation Ceremony for 2023-2024. The event, held at the centre’s Conference Hall, was organised by the Muallaf Development Division (Tarbiyah Muallaf) in collaboration with dakwah units from Tutong, Belait, and Temburong Districts.
The ceremony honoured graduates of the Muallaf Guidance Class 2 (Iqra’) and Muallah Guidance Class 3 (Al-Quran), alongside seven dedicated teachers who have served for over a decade.
Present as the guest of honour was Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, and his spouse. Also in attendance was Director of Pusat Da’wah Islamiah Awang Haji Abd Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh.
The event commenced with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, led by the guest of honour. A Khatam Al-Quran session followed, featuring participants from Kelas Bimbingan Muallaf 3 across all districts, accompanied by a nasyid performance from the Muallaf class of Kampung Batang Mitus, Tutong District.
The ceremony also marked the presentation of certificates and tokens of appreciation by the guest of honour.
In his speech, Awang Haji Abd Rajid highlighted the programme’s evolution since its inception in 1985, now comprising 18 learning centres nationwide, including online platforms. He noted that the continuous classes aim to foster greater Quran literacy and understanding among muallaf.
“The classes serve as a platform for muallaf to learn Islam, Quran recitation, and essential religious practices. Today, we witness the achievements of 185 participants who have completed their respective classes,” he said.
A special mention was made of the recent launch of the Tarannum Al-Quran class, designed for muallaf interested in Quranic melodies, preparing them for national and regional Quranic competitions.
The event concluded with a call for participants to remain committed to their religious studies and to further strengthen ties within the community. Haji Abd Rajid also expressed gratitude to the teachers and host families who provided venues for the classes. – Fadley Faisal
