The Enforcement Unit of the Employee Trust Fund (TAP) identified 13 local employees who were not registered under the National Retirement Scheme (SPK) during inspections at 42 employer-registered premises in the Mukim Berakas Business Complex recently.
The visits aimed to ensure employers fulfil their obligations to register and contribute to SPK for all eligible employees, providing them with essential retirement savings.
The SPK mandates coverage for Brunei citizens and permanent residents, including temporary, contract, day-to-day, and probationary workers who meet the scheme’s requirements.
To simplify the process, TAP offers online services through its e-Amanah platform, enabling employers to register employees and process contributions via the TAP website.
Employers were reminded of the legal consequences of non-compliance. Under Chapter 35 (1) of the National Retirement Scheme Order, 2023, first-time offenders may face a fine of up to BND3,000, with penalties increasing to a maximum of BND10,000 for subsequent violations.
Employees concerned about unregistered status or unpaid contributions are encouraged to report issues to TAP’s Enforcement Unit Hotline, email, or visit their nearest TAP branch.
Registered e-Amanah members can also lodge complaints through their online accounts.
TAP remains committed to safeguarding employees’ rights and ensuring compliance with the SPK framework to secure retirement benefits for all eligible workers. – Lyna Mohamad
