Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) marked the launch of its Green Protocol yesterday with the planting of 100 saplings of various fruit tree species as well as ornamental flowering plants at the UNISSA Campus in Kampong Sinaut, Tutong District.
Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal officiated the ceremony held in conjunction with the launch of UNISSA’s Sinaut Eco Campus.
The Sinaut Eco Campus Project was implemented under the community project cluster in conjunction with the 38th National Day.
The initiative, organised by the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society and Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre, served to preserve the environment and aimed to promote tree-planting activities and volunteerism among students.
The project also supports the Green Protocol guidelines of the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change and meets the needs of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) introduced by the United Nations in relevance to Green Landscape and Infrastructure under the Climate Action objectives. Led by assistant lecturer at the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre Raihana Mohd Raffi, the project also accepts contribution of recycled items from the public such as tyres, used egg trays, boxes, newspapers and plastic bottles.
Acting Deputy Rector Dr Arman bin Haji Asmad, assistant rectors, core officials and academic staff at UNISSA were also present.
