A 15-member delegation, led by Youth and Sports officer Syed Abdul Muiz bin Haji Syed Anayatullah Shah, left the Sultanate to Tokyo, Japan to participate in the 48th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) on Sunday.
Director of Youth and Sports Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim sent off the delegation at the Brunei International Airport and offered advice and motivational words to the participants.
The SSEAYP, launched in 1974, is an international youth exchange initiative for Japan and ASEAN member countries aimed at fostering friendship, mutual understanding and global perspectives among youth, as well as to broadening perspective on the world, and further strengthen the spirit of international cooperation and practical skills for international cooperation. This year marks Brunei’s 36th participation since it joined in 1985.
Running until December 11, the programme brings together 168 youth from 11 countries for a 36-day journey aboard the Nippon Maru. The ship will make stops in Vietnam and Indonesia before returning to Tokyo, Japan. – James Kon
