World Oral Health Day focusses on importance of maintaining oral health

Dental Services Director Dr Kok Ei Chuen shared her department’s strategies in ensuring and raising awareness on oral health among the community during the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) celebration of World Oral Health Day 2023 at the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) yesterday.

The theme encouraged oral care and highlighted the importance of oral care which can lead to other health issues. The ministry underlined the significance of maintaining oral health in every aspect of one’s life.

Acting Permanent Secretary at the MoH Dr Ang Swee Hui attended the celebration.

World Oral Health Day is celebrated every March 20.

This year’s theme ‘Be Proud of Your Mouth’ was first celebrated in 2021 and ends this year.

The ministry through its Dental Services Department invited schools involving 550 teachers and students, to join the celebration at the HPC. Participants saw ‘dental dance’, ‘dental supermarket’, ‘dental warrior’ and ‘dental storytelling’ performances.

The activities aimed to bring and raise awareness in dental care and the prevention of dental deterioration in children.

Also in attendance were Acting Director General of Medical and Health Services at the MoH Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Khalifah bin Pengiran Haji Ismail, department heads, officers and staff at the ministry.
