Attack On Titan exhibition invades KL

(ANN/THE STAR) – The long-awaited Attack On Titan: The Final exhibition has finally made its way to Kuala Lumpur, delighting Japanese pop culture enthusiasts and manga fans alike.

This immersive experience invites visitors to explore the captivating world of towering titans, offering a unique glimpse into the creative genius of manga artist Hajime Isayama.

Located at the Fahrenheit88 mall in downtown KL, the exhibition opened its doors on Thursday and will continue to awe audiences until July 21.

Organised by Trendic and Ace Media Network (AMN) in Malaysia, this event has already left its mark on various Asian cities, including a memorable showcase at the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, in early 2022.

As visitors step into the exhibition, they are greeted by Isayama’s original drafts and sketches, showcasing the meticulous detail and creative vision that have made Attack On Titan a global phenomenon.

The dark fantasy narrative, which has also been adapted into a popular anime series, follows humanity’s struggle for survival against giant man-eating creatures known as Titans in a post-apocalyptic world.

Here are the five key highlights across the nine exhibition stations:

ARTWORKS, EARLY DRAWINGS

This is the area where hardcore fans will likely spend a considerable amount of time, examining the evolution of the manga.

Featuring 180 artworks spanning a decade, some unreleased, the Attack On Titan: The Final exhibition offers an extensive glimpse into Hajime’s creative journey.

From the manga’s inception to its epic conclusion, visitors can explore Hajime’s dystopian universe, gaining insight into his creative process. Life-sized Titan balloons, dioramas, and props augment the immersive experience.

COLOSSAL TITAN – THE GREAT TITAN HEAD

The debut of the Colossal Titan (Bertholdt Hoover) marks a pivotal moment in the series, as it breaches the walls of Paradis, unleashing a horde of titans upon the city.

This exhibit in Kuala Lumpur serves as a poignant reminder of humanity’s initial confrontation with the titans, igniting Eren Yeager’s heroic quest to combat the looming threat.

Additionally, the Colossal Titan symbolises the onset of the apocalypse, famously known as “The Rumbling”.

THE GREAT TITAN BATTLE THEATRE

In contrast to popular anime series like One Piece or Bleach, battles in Attack On Titan seldom unfold as one-on-one encounters.

To contend with formidable titans, humans must employ strategy and sacrifice numerous soldiers to safeguard their communities.

The introduction of Eren Yeager, imbued with Titan powers, offers hope and a tactical edge in combat scenarios.

Within this exhibition segment, screens showcase pivotal battles from both the anime and manga, providing local fans with a richer understanding of choreographed fight sequences.

MINI TOWN DIORAMA

At this exhibit station, visitors are treated to a diorama depicting the town within the walls. It vividly captures the devastation wrought by invading titans, alongside models reenacting memorable battles.

Surprising many fans, the diorama reveals a revelation from earlier seasons: the walls are comprised of numerous Colossal Titans, designed to safeguard the town from external threats while unwittingly ensnaring its inhabitants.

CAFE AND PHOTOBOOTH

In addition to a wide array of Attack On Titan merchandise, the exhibition’s finale includes a collaboration cafe offering an exclusive menu.
