    Workshop nurtures future engineering leaders

    A Leadership Workshop for Engineers was conducted at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), jointly organised by the UTB Alumni Office and the Brunei Affiliate Society for Women Engineers (SWE).

    The two-day event, targeted early- and mid-career professionals from various disciplines, including software, mechanical and electrical engineering, focusing on developing crucial leadership capabilities.

    The workshop drew participants from both government and private sectors, with a curriculum designed to empower engineers to transition into leadership roles by enhancing strategic thinking, communication and team management competencies.

    Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Student, Alumni and Services) Dr Au Thien Wan delivered the opening address, followed by insights from UTB alumnus and associate of the Technology Division at the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank Qamaruzzaman bin Haji Affandy and Public Affairs Officer at the United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Katherine Ntiamoah.

    Professor Datin Dr Norizan Abdul Razak from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia led the interactive sessions, covering essential topics such as communication strategies, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution and strategic leadership planning.

    President of Centre of Maritime Excellence Group Dato’ Capt Dr Jaffar Lamri shared his experience and perspectives on leadership transitions for engineers. The workshop also facilitated networking opportunities among participants.

    The workshop concluded with remarks from UTB Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, followed by a certificate presentation ceremony.
