Around 120 students majoring in HNTec Business Management and Office Administration, accompanied by five module instructors from Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) School of Business Campus in Gadong, recently attended a workshop on ‘Towards a Data-Driven Society’ by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES), through the Department of Statistics.

The workshop was designed to enhance statistical literacy among educators and students at the tertiary level as well as ignite a passion for statistical science among students from an early stage.

Students were provided with insights into the business and social statistics collected by the department through censuses and surveys and the statistical products published by the Department of Statistics such as the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) and the latest Brunei Darussalam Key Indicators (BDKI) 2023 e-book.

The insights offered the students a glimpse into the process of data collection, processing, and analysis adhering to international standards and best practices.

The workshop was led by the acting deputy director general of JPES and facilitated by statistical officers from the Department of Statistics.
