Brunei Darussalam is currently in the southwest monsoon, which will typically persist throughout the month, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Soulik is expected to indirectly influence the weather. Slightly windy condition with potential gusty showers or thundershowers are forecast in the next few days, the agency added.

“Wind gust of up to 60 kilometres per hour is expected during or near heavy showers,” it said. “Over the Brunei waters, generally sea condition is at moderate to rough state, with wave height of one to two metres.”

As of 8am yesterday, Tropical Storm Soulik was observed at coordinates 17.5°N 108.3°E, over the sea areas east of Vietnam, approximately 1,600 kilometres away from the Sultanate. It is forecast to move westwards and eventually dissipate.

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions.

The BDMD said, “There is a high risk of fallen trees and landslides during gusty and heavy shower conditions.

“Flash floods may also occur, especially at the low-lying and flood prone areas, as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and high tide.”

Public, road users and fishermen are advised to stay up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by BDMD and to take actions to ensure safety.
