HANOI (XINHUA) – Vietnam plans to export over 7.5 million tonnes of rice in 2025, mostly from the Mekong Delta region, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This year, the region is expected to produce around 24 million tonnes of rice.
In the first half, approximately 4.53 million tonnes of rice will be shipped abroad. The remaining three million tonnes will be exported in the second half, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that the Ministry of Trade boost rice exports in February, March, April, July, August and September when the rice production is expected to be at its peak.
Vietnam is expected to cultivate seven million hectares of rice in 2025, 132,000 hectares less than in 2024.
The national rice output is set to reach over 43.1 million tonnes, a decrease of 323,000 tonnes year on year.
