Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new extension building of Phase 4, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics (SASM) yesterday.
It is expected to be completed by March 25 next year.
Under the 11th National Development Plan, the proposed SASM building will span 10,317 square metres in floor area, housing a variety of facilities, including eight laboratories, modern classrooms, a lecture hall, conference and seminar rooms, meeting rooms, and offices.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad as the personal representative of Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh officiated the event.
The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the call of Azan and recitation of Zikir led by officer of the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs Mohd Amin bin Haji Salim.
This was followed by the groundbreaking and a presentation of the proposed Phase 4 building accompanied by the viewing of an exhibition.
UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman; UTB principal officers; senior officials from MoE, Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), and Ministry of Development (MoD); consultants; and staff of the university were also present.
