University unveils first campus EV

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) during the university’s stakeholder engagement session yesterday.

The EV aims to significantly ease the movement of students and staff between lecture halls and other facilities while lowering the carbon footprint within the UBD community by minimising the use of personal vehicles for travel around the campus, which is in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Permanent Secretary (Wawasan) at the Prime Minister’s Office and chair of the Special National Coordination Committee of the SDG Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad as the guest of honour unveiled the new vehicle.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle in a speech, said the EV is set to play a crucial role in improving accessibility across campus, which covers 650 acres and houses 33 buildings.

The EV is a contribution from Chen Dingguang, a current UBD student pursuing Master in Business Administration at the School of Business and Economics. – Lyna Mohamad
