Over 130 underprivileged students in the Brunei-Muara District received books from a charity project recently.
The Brunei Council on Social Welfare’s (MKM) Charity Books Project, organised with local bookshop dBookHaus, to hand over books to 131 children as part of their annual charity drive to encourage reading among underprivileged families.
MKM President Mohamed Yusof bin Shaik Abdul Halim said that the project, now in its fifth year, had encouraged reading among their clients’ children, adding that a poll had shown they appreciated books the most out of the things they received from the charity, including food and toys.
Through the Charity Books Project, donors can purchase books from dBookHaus to be assigned to an underprivileged student.
Around 10 per cent of the purchase price will also be donated to MKM to assist in funding other charity projects. – Fadley Faisal
