UK travel agents explore Sultanate

Travel agents from the United Kingdom (UK) were in the country recently for a three-day familarisation trip to study Brunei Darussalam as a potential tourist destination for UK travellers.

The trip, organised by the Tourism Development Department in collaboration with Royal Brunei Airlines, placed an emphasis on showcasing the nation’s natural wonders, rich cultural heritage and thrilling adventures, said the department in a press statement yesterday.

The department said eight delegates from UK travel agencies enjoyed an immersive and diverse experiential tour, featuring visits to a local market, mangrove river cruise, the Royal Regalia Museum, Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and a city tour.

The travel agents also had the opportunity to connect with the community at the Sibut Longhouse to learn about the Iban customs and traditions; and gain insights into the rich cultural heritage of the Sultanate’s indigenous people.

Participants savoured the flavours of Brunei, indulging in local delicacies such as soto, ambuyat and other popular dishes at Gadong Night Market.

These culinary experiences provided an exploration of Brunei’s gastronomic landscape, enriching their cultural journey.

Throughout the famtrip, the participants also had the opportunity to visit several hotel accommodations, including Radisson Hotel, The Empire Brunei, The Abode Resort and Spa, and The Rizqun International Hotel, to explore the facilities and offerings provided by the establishments.

The Tourism Development Department hopes that the tours and experiences offered during the familiarisation trip will encourage them to promote tour packages to the country, highlighting the latest attractions, thus enhancing the appeal of the Sultanate as a preferred travel destination.
