Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBD SBE) is set to become the first educational institution in the Sultanate to provide a platform for the Finance Leadership Programme (FLP) offered by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

The collaboration between UBD SBE and CIMA is a testimony of the business school’s support of UBD’s commitment in enhancing university-industry engagement.

A team of officials led by CIMA specialist Naidatul Afiqah on Wednesday gave a talk to UBD students to provide insight into the FLP including the registration, examination, and mode of online study and resources available for students who are interested to participate in the  programme.

The talk also introduced opportunities and benefits for holders of the professional qualification.

The FLP is an online, fully digital way to study for the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Professional Qualification and obtain CGMA status.

CGMA is the most widely held management accounting designation in the world with more than 137,000 designees.

It was established in 2012 by the AICPA and CIMA to recognise a unique group of management accountants who have reached the highest benchmark of quality and competence.

The CGMA designation is built on extensive global research to maintain the highest relevance with employers and develop the competencies most in demand.

CGMA designation holders qualify through rigorous education, exam and experience requirements.

Responses from the students were encouraging, especially those majoring in Accounting and Finance.

Due to the positive feedback, UBD SBE and CIMA are making arrangements to have a series of seminars on FLP to interested students, including making UBD SBE the hub for FLP in Brunei Darussalam so that the qualification is accessible to candidates from other institutions.
