Brunei is currently in the inter-monsoon period, where local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather.
According to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) in a statement, as of 5.00 pm local time today, Typhoon NESAT was observed at coordinates 18.0°N 112.7°E, at the South China Sea, approximately 1500 km away from Brunei. Typhoon NESAT is forecasted to move westwards away from the sultanate.
The BDMD added that typhoon NESAT will indirectly influence our country’s weather and is expected to cause active weather conditions in the next few days until end of this week, 23rd October. “Occasional showers or thundershowers are still expected with wind speed that may reach 45 km/h during or near heavy showers,” it added.
Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, the BDMD said sea state is at slight to moderate state, between 0.8 m to 1.8 m.
