Two companies, three individuals hit with fines

Two local companies and three individuals, including a local, were each slapped with BND2,000 compound fines by enforcement officers from the Control and Enforcement Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department.

The offenders were caught throwing rubbish in public areas and pathway during ‘Operasi Bersih’ from May 8 to 11. Offenders are advised to settle their fines within seven days.

Under the Miscellaneous Offences Act 2021, the rate of compound fine for an individual is up to BND1,000 while for a corporate body, up to BND2,000. Failure to settle the fine will result in the case being brought to court.

An individual found guilty will face a BND1,000 and BND3,000 fine for the first offence, between BND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, for subsequent offences.

Meanwhile, any company found guilty will face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence, and between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

The department also reminded the public and business owners to maintain cleanliness of their surrounding areas. – James Kon
