Two civilians saved the day when they put out a fire in Kampong Sibut, Jalan Batang Duri on Friday.
Five firefighters led by Mohd Salleh bin OKM Haji Jair from Rataie Fire Station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, fire personnel used a hose jet to further contain the embers.
The fire destroyed a bedroom of the house. No injuries or loss of life were reported. The cause is under investigation and cost of damages ascertained.
The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) advised the public to equip residences with fire extinguishers such as dry powder or a fire blanket, while ensuring electrical appliances are switched off if not in use. The agency also warned the public against leaving cooking unattended, and in the event of a gas leak to open windows and doors to allow air circulation.
