Tutong public bursting with excitement in royal get-together

Residents, young and old, gathered in the vicinity of the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex’s for the arrival of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for a get-together to mark the monarch’s 77th birthday.

Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School Year 10 student Liling Sherlynawati said, “We are here to wave mini national flags as His Majesty arrives at the venue.”

She said this was not her first time participating in the royal get-together. She has been participating since early school days.

Her fondest memory was meeting the monarch when she was in Year 2. Her class dressed up as fruits during the year’s performance. “I was in heavy makeup as a watermelon when greeting His Majesty,” she said with a wide smile.

Among the various agencies and associations participating in the event was Wargamas Association Tutong.

“Wargamas Association Tutong was established in July 10, 2017 and has organised as well as hosted various activities for the elderly in the district,” said association member Hajah Mastuyah binti Abdul Ghani.

Wargamas Association Tutong has over 300 members and “it provides the older generation a place to spend time together and take part in meaningful activities such as Al-Quran reading clinics and cooking classes”, she said.

Hajah Mastuyah thanked His Majesty and the government for providing facilities for the association and wished the monarch a long and healthy life. – Adib Noor
