MELAKA (ANN/THE STAR) – A 42-year-old burglar, dubbed “Cicak Man” for his skill in climbing drainage pipes to access homes, has been arrested, according to state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Zainol.
The man, identified as Khairi, also known as Cicak, is from Selayang Baru, near Batu Caves in Selangor.
He was apprehended at a hotel in Durian Tunggal on 16th October and is believed to be responsible for approximately 22 burglaries, mainly in the districts of Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah.
DCP Zainol stated that the suspect tested positive for drugs and has a lengthy criminal record, with 14 prior offences, many related to drug abuse. During the arrest, the police recovered a large quantity of stolen items, including ten mobile phones, various foreign currencies, pieces of jewellery, and a bag bearing the emblem of “Majlis Guru Besar SJK (C) Negeri Melaka.”
The recovered items are estimated to be worth around MYR150,000. Additionally, a bag suspected to contain illegal substances was seized during the raid on the hotel room.
The police are continuing their investigation into the suspect’s involvement in these crimes.
