A tree planting ceremony was held yesterday at the Mullae Community Garden in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul in celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Brunei Darussalam.
The event symbolises the friendship and partnership between the two nations, highlighting the shared commitment to addressing climate change and promoting forest conservation.
The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Embassy in South Korea, the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), and the Yeongdeungpo-gu District, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam.
A Korean caramel tree, known as Gyesu-namu in Korean, is renowned for its distinctive heart-shaped leaves. The caramel tree also emits a sweet scent and produce vibrant colours during the autumn season. Its ability to thrive in harsh environments makes it a fitting representation of the enduring friendship and mutual cooperation between the two nations over the past 40 years. Participants expressed hopes for more years of strong partnership.
