Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) youth volunteers completed a three-day leadership camp on Saturday.

Around 43 youth from across the district participated in the Henry Dunant Youth Leadership Camp 2022, themed ‘Youth are the Hope and Leaders of Tomorrow’, at the BRC headquarters in Bunut.

The youth were given an introduction to co-founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Henry Dunant, the organisation and its seven guiding principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.

BRC Secretary-General Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Ibrahim presented certificates to participants.

The secretary-general said young people play an important role in humanitarian action around the world, adding that the youth represent the majority of almost 15 million Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, carrying out responsibilities, saving lives and improving their local communities every day.

He said the BRC sees the involvement of the youth as vital to delivering effective the humanitarian aid, and their participation can transform the organisation for the better.

“The youth are agents of change. They have the authority to tackle humanitarian challenges related to their local communities.

“With youth making decisions at all levels of management, administration and delivering of services, it is essential to transfer skills, experiences and knowledge among the new generation.”
