The Tourism Development Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Department of Special Education at the Ministry of Education organised a basic sign language workshop for 20 tour guides recently.
Acting Director of Tourism Development Department Hajah Nur Fariza Munyati binti Haji Abdul Aji handed over certificates to the participants at a ceremony at MPRT.
The two-day workshop aimed at equipping tour guides with skills to communicate effectively with deaf or hearing-impaired visitors.
Instructors from Department of Special Education facilitated the workshop. The tour guides learnt basic sign language, deaf culture and practised real-life scenarios to improve communication skills.
The Tourism Development Department, in a statement, said it believes every traveller to Brunei should have the opportunity to fully engage with and enjoy their travel experience, regardless of their abilities or communication preferences. The workshop not only promoted inclusivity but also enhanced the quality of service provided to visitors. – James Kon
