Hajah Suria binti Haji Dahali, 37, who won BND10,000 in the the third quarterly draw of the Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Aspirasi 4 Reward Campaign yesterday, said she had not expected to win the money as she had initially felt that the chances of her winning would be slim.

“I had to push myself to come to this event because I was actually supposed to be admitted to the hospital for a procedure,” said Hajah Suria, adding that she took the opportunity to come just in case it was her rezeki.

She said she currently has no solid plan as to what she will do with the money aside from giving alms to her siblings.

Siti Nor Izzati Hasyyati binti Rosli, A’dhwatul Amanda binti Haji Abdul Kadir, Shalhamdulillah Zulhajji bin Sidi and Abdul Azim bin Said also each won BND10,000 at an event at the PGGMB building in the capital.

Another 35 winners also won BND1,000 each as part of the campaign’s ninth monthly draw. The winners were chosen from customers who subscribed to BIBD Aspirasi with a minimum holding period of 90 days.

As she has taken part in BIBD Aspirasi since it started, Hajah Suria said she continuously deposited BND50 monthly and had initially planned to withdraw half of the savings at the end of this month, but with winning the draw, she said she will continue on saving which she hopes will subsequently become an example to the rest of her family members to want to save as well. “Alhamdulillah, thank you BIBD,” said Hajah Suria.

Deputy Chairman of the BIBD Shariah Advisory Body Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani initiated the winners draw and handed over the mock cheques to the quarterly winners.

Meanwhile, BIBD’s Deputy Managing Director Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman presented the prizes to the monthly winners.

External auditors from Pricewaterhouse-Coopers were also present to ensure management of the draw is overseen independently. Members of the BIBD management, as well as staff and personnel of the bank also attended.

The BIBD Aspirasi programme, in its fourth cycle, was introduced to make the discipline of savings easier, accessible, and convenient as subscriptions and redemptions can be made directly through the BIBD NEXGEN Wallet mobile application.

To encourage long term savings and financial management, BIBD’s long term objective is to ensure that customers continue to save and aim for financial independence.

With Aspirasi, not only are customers maintaining their savings, but also rewarded with monthly cash prizes, quarterly prizes and the grand prize.

To qualify for the reward draw, customers are required to maintain a minimum holding period of 90 days, with a minimum holding deposit of BND50 for the entire duration of the programme. Those who signed up before August 31, 2022 are eligible to win prizes under the programme.

BIBD Aspirasi 4 will again reward over 400 winners with cash prizes totalling BND870,000 throughout the year.

The programme has awarded 290 winners since January 2022.
