Temburong residents learn about scams

Digital Brunei organised its third community outreach session yesterday.

The event, held at Utama Bumiputera Complex in Temburong District, was a collaboration between Digital Brunei, the Temburong District Office and the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PKWE).

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir joined over 50 participants comprising PKWE members, village heads and representatives from village consultative councils.

The event began with a presentation from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), focusing on identifying fake news and online scams.

It was followed by a briefing from the Royal Brunei Police Force on cybercrime statistics and case studies specific to the Sultanate.

Cyber Security Brunei then provided insights into how one can avoid falling prey to scams that involve the misuse of artificial intelligence.

Later, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam offered guidance on digital etiquette and common online scams while Progresif Sdn Bhd showcased Ding! digital wallet, a new feature on the Progresif CARE+ app.

Digital Brunei plans to extend its outreach programmes to all four districts in partnership with PKWE to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusivity. The initiative, under the guidance of the Digital Economy Council and facilitated by AITI, aligns with Brunei’s Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 and Brunei Vision 2035. – Fadley Faisal
