Singa Menteri ‘A’ recorded two back-to-back set wins against Singa Menteri ‘C’ to become champions of the Sepak Takraw Tournament for Belait District’s Mukim at the Mumong Sports Complex on Sunday.
After getting knocked into the lower bracket by Singa Menteri ‘C’ in the first phase of the tournament, the ‘A’ team rose through the lower bracket defeating several teams including Mukim Bukit Sawat ‘C’ in the runner-up match.
In the final, Singa Menteri ‘A’ faced Singa Menteri ‘C’ in a best-of three rematch. They closed out the first set 15-10, and a comfortable 15-7 win in the second set. Mukim Bukit Sawat ‘C’ finished third.
Belait District Acting Head of Youth and Sports Department Gaung Jamit presented the prizes.
Seventeen teams from the Belait District competed in the tournament, held in conjunction with the 78th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. – Daniel Lim
