The Human Trafficking Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) hosted a talk on human trafficking for crime investigating officers in district police stations to provide better understanding and detail on the elements and signs in the criminal investigation of human trafficking.
Head of the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit Deputy Superintendent Police Hajah Anis @ Roszaffina binti Haji Ahmad delivered the talk. The talk highlighted signs of human trafficking in initial police investigations. Indicators such as forced recruitment, sexual exploitation, restricted freedom of movement or communication, treatment as sex slaves, sale or enslavement, involvement in prostitution under the age of 18, confiscation of identification documents, and threats of harm to the victim’s family if they attempt
to escape were discussed.
The talk, at Berakas Police Station’s multi-purpose hall on Wednesday, saw 81 officers and personnel, comprising investigators from Brunei-Muara District police stations, participate. The talk will continue tomorrow and on Monday. – James Kon
