Taekwondo, a martial art that embodies Korea’s rich cultural heritage, is more than just a sport. It’s a way of life, Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Kim Soung-eun said.
He said this as the guest of honour at the 3rd Korean Ambassador Cup Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Championship 2023 at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex organised by the Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA) with the cooperation of the Embassy of Korea in Brunei Darussalam recently.
A total of 305 participants across nine teams comprising local clubs and from neighbouring countries participated in the tournament this year. The ambassador added; “I firmly believe that sports cooperation through taekwondo fosters stronger relationships among our countries and promotes mutual understanding. Therefore, it is my hope that
taekwondo spreads more widely and becomes a shared experience, especially in Brunei.”
He also congratulated the local taekwondo athletes who recently earned medals at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang and the Sehan University International Championship in Korea. The ceremony also witnessed a taekwondo demonstration and a medal presentation for Hanmadang participants during the morning session. – Fadhil Yunus
