Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) took part in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the International Convention Centre (ICC), organised by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) yesterday.

The bank exhibited its collaborations with the government in support of the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Sultanate.

The event was graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the royal family.

The event carried the theme ‘Memperkasakan Penglibatan Masyarakat Dalam Mencapai Wawasan Brunei 2035’ (‘Empowering the Involvement of the Community in Achieving Brunei Vision 2035’), as part of the bank’s efforts towards helping the government achieve Goal 2: Quality of Life and Goal 3: Dynamic and Sustainable Economy of the Brunei Vision 2035, BIBD through a collaboration with Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), has created a physical market place called Projek Tunas, in line with its commitment to providing financial inclusivity by targetting segments that need support and upskilling through entrepreneurship programmes under its social enterprise outreach initiative.

Projek Tunas marketplace is an aggregation of support provided to entrepreneurial programmes under the MoHA, such as the One Village One Product (1K1P) programme; the Muallafpreneurs Consortium from Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs; the BIBD Special Entrepeneurial Empowerment and Development Scheme (BIBD SEED); and the Usahawan Bakarih Yayasan (Yayasan entrepreneurship assistance programme) under Yayasan.

With the tagline of ‘Enriching Inclusivity,’ the Projek Tunas provides a platform for trainings to become established MSMEs, be successful entrepreneurs, gain market access and be empowered to contribute towards the nation.

A total of 235 entrepreneurs comprising 130 muallafpreneurs, 76 BIBD SEED participants, 19 participants from 1K1P and 10 Usahawan Bakarih Yayasan are currently given opportunities to take part in the project.

Projek Tunas marketplace outlets are located at the MoHA and Ministry of Education with plans to expand to more locations.

BIBD also presented its ‘Bruneian At Heart’ hampers for 2023 Hari Raya and Chinese New Year, filled with local favourites by small businesses. and a set of green packets designed by a student of BIBD Advocating Life-long Learning for an Aspiring Future (ALAF).

BIBD’s collaborations with the government has been instrumental in driving social and economic development in the country.

BIBD will continue to promote MSMEs as part of their corporate social responsibilities, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) 2030 commitments and the SME360 objectives to contribute to the growth of the wider economy.

Representing BIBD at the event was its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Junaidi bin Haji Masri.
