His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam emphasised that all teaching and learning related to Al-Quran should be delivered with sincerity by truly qualified teachers who appreciate its teachings and wisdom.
The monarch highlighted this in a titah at the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration for 1446 Hijrah last night.
Expressing gratitude to Allah the Almighty, His Majesty noted that this year’s theme, ‘Healthy Mind with Al-Quran’, underscores how Al-Quran nurtures and develops the mind.
Among its many roles, Al-Quran ensures that the mind remains healthy, serving as the ultimate guide to the straight and perfect path. It is the mind that sets human beings apart from other creatures.
Undoubtedly, the mind is a great gift from Allah the Almighty, enabling humans to understand and implement His teachings. Therefore, Al-Quran places great importance on preserving the mind.
Al-Quran also warns against anything that can damage the mind, including the consumption of alcohol and intoxicating substances. When a person is intoxicated, their mind is impaired and this extends to drug abuse, which also leads to severe harm.
His Majesty also urged Al-Quran teachers to continuously enhance their skills to ensure effective teaching and learning for students.
Al-Quran teachers hold a revered position in Islam, as they are regarded as the best among people. His Majesty cited a hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari, in which Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “The best of you are those who learn and teach Al-Quran.”
This hadith, His Majesty noted, highlights the immense reward for those involved in the teaching and learning of Al-Quran.
“This is my hope and the nation’s aspiration – to see highly capable teachers, especially Al-Quran teachers, who can cultivate an excellent generation in the field of Al-Quran studies. My government, insya Allah, will continue to prioritise Al-Quran education to ensure that all Muslims in this country can read and understand Al-Quran.” Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik. – Lyna Mohamad
