Students celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

Students and teachers of Chung Hwa School Kiudang in Tutong District recently celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival to promote and preserve the Chinese culture with a Chinese poetry recital competition, lantern making competition, and a Mid-Autumn Festival quiz.

Principal Loo Shee Yun said, “This traditional Chinese festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is a time for family reunions and celebrating the harvest season.”

The event saw a Chinese poetry recital competition, where both Chinese and non-Chinese students showcased their talent in reciting classical Chinese poems.

The competition not only encouraged an appreciation for Chinese literature but also fostered cross-cultural understanding.

Meanwhile, the lantern making competition displayed the creativity and craftsmanship of the students as the school was adorned with colourful lanterns.

Chairman of Chung Hwa School Kiudang Kelvin Pong awarded prizes to the top three lantern designs. Adding an element of fun and intellectual challenge to the celebration, students were also tested in their knowledge of the significance and history of the Mid-Autumn Festival in a quiz.

Vice Chairman Wong handed out prizes to quiz winners, recognising their dedication to learning and cultural awareness. – James Kon
