Some 115 students participated in the competition, competing against students from around 50 different countries.

Rishan achieved a Gold Award in the Junior Maths Challenge and progressed to the Junior Maths Olympiad.

Only the top 1,200 students from the Junior Maths Challenge are invited to the Olympiad. Out of those, only the top 100 receive gold, silver or bronze medals.

Head of Mathematics at JIS Chris Walker said, “At JIS, our Maths faculty is committed to developing resilient problem solvers. We hope that participating in such events will inspire and motivate our students.”

The Junior Maths Challenge (JMC) involving schools from around the world is designed for pupils in School Years 7-8 (ages 11-13). The challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour without using a calculator.

The questions are aimed at challenging students’ mathematical dexterity and their ability to apply the mathematics they learn in school in creative ways.

Executive Principal Nicholas Sheehan, said, “We are immensely proud of Rishan’s success and the way he represents our school on an international stage. This accomplishment not only celebrates Rishan’s talent but also reflects the dedication and excellence of the Maths department.”
