The Mawar Association organised a programme dubbed ‘Protecting Women and Children Against Sexual Assault’ yesterday. The topics included the types of violence and sexual harassment frequently faced by women and children in Brunei Darussalam, the statistics of sexual harassment from 2019 to 2022 and the action victims and the public should take.
Examples of social media platforms used to target victims and preventative steps were also discussed.
The association hoped to increase awareness of the importance of protecting violence and sexual harassment among women and children and support for the victims. The programme held in conjunction with International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was held at Silaturrahim Hall, Pusat Belia.
Mawar Association also invited three guest speakers: Social Work Officer at the Family, Women and Children Division from Community Development Department Nuurhafizah binti Brahim; Women and Children Advocate Noorussa’adah binti Haji Abdul Rani and Senior Investigation Officer of Women and Child Abuse Investigation Unit Ag DSP Norainah binti Haji Md Salleh.
The programme was supported by the Community Development Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Brunei Youth Council.
