S’pore president calls for avoiding black-and-white terms to seek growth

SINGAPORE (XINHUA) – Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has called on the business circle to avoid black-and-white views to seek opportunities in a more uncertain and unpredictable climate.

Tharman made the remarks while addressing the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Lunar New Year Celebration Saturday. Noting that international growth is a source of Singapore’s prosperity, the president described avoiding black-and-white terms as the basic orientation to live with unprecedented uncertainties.

Stressing that Asia is full of opportunities but also unpredictable and risky, the president told the businesses to take the opportunities while avoiding large concentrations of bets. “We have to recognise that the challenges and strengths can both be true at the same time.

We have to avoid black-and-white views to seek opportunities in a more uncertain and unpredictable climate,” Tharman told Singaporean business leaders.
