A total of 10 matches were contested as the TAIB Open Sepak Takraw Super League (LSST) 2024 opened its curtains at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex Multi-Purpose Hall yesterday.
The opening day saw teams from two groups competing in the open doubles category.
The tournament will run for six consecutive weekends to be played at three separate venues including the Tutong District.
Matches from Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ will be held on November 3 and 10 at the Tutong Sports Complex Multi-Purpose Hall.
This will be followed with the quadrant and hoop categories starting from November 17-20 at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held on November 22 and 24 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex culminating in the closing ceremony and prize presentation.
The second edition of the LSST tournament will contest three categories namely the open doubles, hoop and under-23 quadrant.
The open doubles category will feature 20 teams while the hoop and under-23 categories involve five and 12 teams, respectively.
Among the teams that qualified into the TAIB Open LSST 2024 are the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council ‘A’ (MS ABDB ‘A’), MS ABDB ‘B’, Permata Hijau ‘A’, Siguntur Alam ‘B’, Semada ‘B’, Sengkurong, Mengkubau ‘A’, Warisan Belait ‘A’, Warisan Belait ‘B’, Muara Spurs ‘A’, Muara Spurs ‘B’, Meragang Tigres, 7 Bros, Masin Bersatu ‘B’, Permata Hijau ‘B’, Penglima Kota Batu, Miharbi ‘A’, Gabungan Kampong Lambak Kiri, MPK Luma St ‘B’ and Brunei Legend.
The TAIB Open LSST is organised by the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (PESTABARU) with the cooperation of the Youth and Sports Department and Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) as the league’s main sponsor.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad attended the opening day.
Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas Yang Berhormat Amran bin Haji Maidin and Managing Director of Perbadanan TAIB Datin Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim were also present. – Fadhil Yunus
