Seoul issues warning as extreme cold takes hold

ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES – The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the weather warning will remain in effect as the temperature dropped to as low as 12 degrees Celsius (˚C) on December 17.

“The lowest temperature on Saturday was recorded at -3.6˚C and the lowest temperature from Sunday morning was -12˚C, 8.4˚C lower than the previous day,” said the Seoul Metropolitan Government in a press release.

“The city government decided to keep the cold wave watch issued on Saturday to counter possible damage that could arise due to the sudden low temperatures.”

In Seoul, temperatures on December 17 are expected to reach -12˚C, with highs up to -6˚C.

The Korea Meteorological Administration also forecast that while temperatures will begin to crawl back up after December 17, the lowest temperatures on December 18 and 19 would still be in the negatives.

On December 18 and 19, temperatures could hit lows of -11˚C and -6˚C, with highs of -2˚C and -3˚C, respectively.
