Senior citizens showcase talent in poetry reading

Siti Hazizah binti Haji Nurdin won the judges’ hearts when she recited the poetry, Katani Warga Emas. She took the top spot with 80 points received for her presentation at the Sayembara Puisi WARGAMAS competition held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Multaqa Hall yesterday.

The competition, organised by the WARGAMAS Organisation (PW), was attended by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the guest of honour.

Haji Mohd Hussin bin Haji Mohd Salleh was named first runner-up for his rendition of Ya Warga Emas while Haji Nor Amin bin Mohd Yassin came in third place for his recitation of Janji Kita.

Themed ‘Sayangi Warga Emas’, the competition aimed to highlight senior citizens’ talents in poetry reading.

It also served to instil interest in language and literature, while igniting creative ideas among poets and strengthening ties among the members.

The event concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat and Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam by Begawan Mudim Haji Ahmad Kasra bin Haji Ibrahim.

PW President Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Mohd Don was also present.
